Food Review: Sun With Moon Japanese Dining & Café

Sun With Moon Japanese Dining & Cafe serves authentic traditional Japanese fare as well as modern Japanese dishes specially created by the executive chef, Mr Toshio Sawai.

Unagi & Yakiniku Kamameshi ($24.80)
Grilled eel with soy sauce and sautéd sliced beef topped with egg yolk served in an iron pot with flavoured steamed rice

Kamameshi (釜飯) is one of the signature dishes here. It is a flavoured rice steamed with various ingredients in an iron pot called the kama. This dish consisted of thick slices of barbecued unagi, thinly sliced yakiniku beef, dried seaweed, pickled ginger, edamame beans, a runny egg yolk, along with mushrooms and chestnuts hidden inside. The unagi was tender and literally melt-in-your-mouth.

Aburi Kaisen Bara Chirashi Don ($25.80)
Flame-seared sushi rice bowl with diced salmon, grilled eel, scallop, prawn, fish roe, avocado, and sweet omelette

This dish was a bright and colourful mix of fresh sashimi and tamago atop a bed of sushi rice. The flavours harmonised perfectly and was very delectable.

Sun’s Tofu Cheesecake ($6.80)
Homemade beancurd cheesecake

Not only was this cheesecake aesthetically pleasing, it was light with a smooth, creamy texture that was not too overpowering and had a crunchy biscuit bottom. This dessert was a sweet end to our extremely satisfying meal. I will definitely come back.
